I just wanted to update everyone with what is happening at Oh My Cod on Spendmore Lane. MY name is Andrew and I have been the landlord for this property since I sold the business in 2005. This shop was my first shop, having used my graduate loan as a deposit and borrowed the rest from the bank it really was the shop that started my career in fish and chips and I have an attachment to the place. I have had an amazing career in fish and chips and I owe it to this shop.. it gave me my start!

I still operate Skippers of Euxton, which I have run for 17 years, and I have been President of the National Federation of Fish friers, a role I have held for 7 years now. My industry role often means I am away and was the main reason I tried to help the previous tenant out and assigned him the lease. Sadly that didnt work out form him for several reasons and it would not be right for me to comment on that.

Due to the cost of doing business crisis the business has had a torrid time over the last few years and really needed someone with a lot of experience at the helm to navigate through it. I have put a lot of thought into what to do next and have come to a decision. I plan to open up the shop myself towards the end of the summer, potatoes are currently too expensive and the new crop is often a little too soft as the drymatter (everything other than water) is too low at the start. This will also give me chance to get other things in place such as equipment, utilities and online ordering.

As parking is tight at the shop we will be offering a click and collect service, reducing the amount of time you will have to wait for food. We will also be starting deliveries later in the year.

This is not a decision I have taken lightly as I will be charged business rates at this premises as it is my second outlet and I will have to also charge VAT , neither of which previous operators have had to contend with. It will be a lot of work too but I firmly beleive Coppull deserves to have a good fish and chip shop. I enjoyed my time there in the past so I do look forward to opening up.

It really is down to how much support it gets from the village as to the future of this shop. I am quite happy, once I know it can stand it, to put a new frying range into the shop, which will cost in excess of £40,000.
To start off we will be operating limited opening hours and hopefully grow enough to extend them. I also have a few ideas I have gained over the years working with the best fish and chip shops in the country but we will announce more about that nearer the time.
Thank you for taking and interest
Andrew
Hiya I’m so glad that you are in the works or reopening Oh my Cod! The village definitely deserves a good chippy and from what I’ve heard off of people who lived here when you originally ran Oh my Cod its was amazing under your management!
This is a wee bit random but I was just wondering if there is any possibility that you will do saveloysat any point if all goes to plan? I only ask because I’m from Ireland and my dad is obsessed with them but we’ve been up and down the Uk and nobody seems to stock them here…
Hi Aoife
I can get saveloys but they are not a huge seller up north, they go well in the midlands and further south. Leave it with me and I will see what i can do. I can split a box between the two shops.
Best wishes
Andrew
